May Traffic Initiative
May 14-20, 2024, is Canada Road Safety Week. This year’s theme is “Every Road. Every Day. Everyone”
In support of the week, the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit will focus on the following for the entire month of May:
- Impaired Driving (alcohol, drugs, fatigue)
- Distracted Driving
- Aggressive Driving
- Seatbelts

Impaired Arrest
An 18-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 1:40am on May 15, 2024, officer conducted a routine traffic stop in the area of Lansdowne Street East and Ashburnham Drive. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment.
As a result, an 18-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Secure more than one license (Highway Traffic Act)
- Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 4, 2024.
