Events must be within the City of Peterborough or any municipality that the Peterborough Police Service provides policing services for under contract. |
Paid Duty Details |
- Each request will be reviewed to ensure that it meets Service policies.
- A 3 hour minimum charge per officer.
- There is a 24 hour cancellation policy in effect.
- A 6% cancellation free for any Paid Duty event that is cancelled by you, the client, will only be applied when the client advises that they no longer need the officer(s) after the contract has been created. If the Police Service needs to cancel the event, there will be no charge to the client.

Statutory Holiday Paid Duty Requests |
Any Paid Duty occurring on a recognized Statutory Holiday will incur an additional 15% premium for those hours worked on said Statutory Holiday per member. |
How many officers do I require? |
The number of officers required for a Paid Duty will be assessed and determined by the Peterborough Police Service based upon a risk assessment. Only when all parties agree and all required positions are filled will service be provided. |
How far in advance should I book a Paid Duty? |
The Peterborough Police Service will make every effort to fulfill Paid Duty requests; however, the filling of requests is not guaranteed. Advance notice assists the Peterborough Police Service in fulfilling requests.
Requests for Pay Duties should be submitted a minimum of 7 days in advance (30 days for major events). We will respond to your request within 2 business days.

Payment Schedule for Paid Duties |
- Constable $81.03 per hour
- Sergeant $91.57 per hour
- Staff Sergeant $101.23 per hour
- Special Constable/Civilian $62.59 per hour
- Cruiser $100.00 flat rate per day (plus applicable taxes/fees)

- Constable $83.66 per hour
- Sergeant $94.55 per hour
- Staff Sergeant $104.52 per hour
- Special Constable $64.62 per hour
Statutory Holiday Rates:
- Constable $96.21 per hour
- Sergeant $108.73 per hour
- Staff Sergeant $120.20 per hour
- Special Constable $74.31 per hour
Cruiser:
- Cruiser $100.00 flat rate per day (plus applicable taxes/fees)
The following shall serve as guidelines for the supervision of officer pay duties:
- 5-10 Constables- 1 Sergeant
- 11-15 Constables- 2 Sergeants
- 16 or more 1 Sergeant and 1 Staff Sergeant

Payment for Paid Duties |
- Partial hours will be billed at the full hour rate (i.e. 15 minutes will be billed for 1 hour)
- If officers are required to stay longer than the original terms of the contract, you will be invoiced the difference.
Payment Options:
- Through your Bank: You can now make your invoice payment through your financial institution, tele bank and online banking. Please add the City of Peterborough Accounts Receivable to your Payee list by using the search word “Peterborough”. Once located please use your 6-digit Account Number located on your invoice.
- At the Tax Office: You can pay by cash, cheque or debit card at the Tax Office in City Hall during regular business hours.
- By Cheque: Cheques can be mailed to the Tax Office, dropped off in person, or placed in our secure drop-box located by the steps at the front doors of City Hall, 500 George St N. Please make all cheques payable to the “City of Peterborough”.
- By Credit Card: Credit card payments for Invoice Payments are not accepted directly by the City of Peterborough; however, invoices can be paid online by credit card using an online bill payment service provider such as PaySimply or Plastiq. These providers are neither affiliates nor partners of the City. They may apply service charges and there may be restrictions on the types of credit cards accepted. The City of Peterborough receives only the invoiced amount. Payment is processed by the City on the date the funds are received, which may be a few days after payment is made.

Documents for Paid Duties

If any of the events below relate to your request, have them ready to be uploaded.
- 6.0 Required Permits including Construction Worksites, Traffic Control Plan and Signaller Protocol(s)
- 6.1 When the event associated with the paid duty requires a permit(s) or other documentation to demonstrate that the activity will be conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, bylaw(s) or policy(ies), the applicant shall provide the Paid Duty Clerk with copies of the required document(s) when application is made for the paid duty. (Ex. parade permit)
- 6.2 Any paid duty applicant requesting a paid duty officer(s) and/or Special Constable(s) to attend at or near a construction worksite, shall submit to the paid duty clerk a current Traffic Control Plan and a copy of the applicant’s current traffic control and signaller protocol(s). The Traffic Control Plan and current traffic control and signaller protocol(s) shall be submitted when application is made for the paid duty.
- 6.3 The paid duty officer(s) and/or Special Constable(s) shall be fully informed of the applicant’s current Traffic Control Plan and current traffic control and signaller protocol(s) prior to arriving at the paid duty job site.
