Distracted Driving Campaign
The Peterborough Police Service distracted driving campaign “Eyes on the Road” continues. Another 40 tickets have been laid for distracted driving bringing the total to 80 tickets since May 1st.
- Help keep your roads safe by:
- Never text while driving
- Pull over to use your phone
- Avoid tasks that may take your attention away from driving
Residents can also report driving complaints through the Peterborough Police Service online reporting portal.
Ontario Distracted Driving Statistics
- It's estimated that 8 in 10 accidents are caused by distraction
- Deaths from collisions caused by distracted driving have doubled since 2000
- One person is injured from a distracted driving related accident every 30 minutes
Assault Arrest
A 67-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after a neighbour dispute.
At approximately 7:30pm on May 15, 2023, officers were called to a Peterborough residence. Upon arrival, officers learned that during a confrontation a female had thrown a bag of garbage at another tenant. The victim was not injured.
As a result, a 67-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 13, 2023.
