Hate/Bias Incident Investigation – Update #2

The Peterborough Police Service continues to investigate additional reports of anti-Semitic pamphlets being distributed in a Peterborough neighbourhood over the weekend.

It’s believed the pamphlets were distributed sometime during Saturday night into early Sunday morning in the area of Parkhill Road West and Crowley Crescent and in the Medical Drive and Weller Street area. 

This is the third time a grouping of such incidents has been reported this year. In mid-May pamphlets were reported delivered in neighbourhoods in the Lansdowne Street and George Street area as well as East City and in June in the Wolsely Street and Chemong Road area.   

In total, the Peterborough Police Service has received 19 reports from residents (see map below) and canvassed in the areas for video and further information.

“There is no room for hate in our community at any time,” says Stuart Betts, Chief of Police, Peterborough Police Service. “The number one goal of the Peterborough Police Service is public safety, and the Service is committed to this goal. The map provided is intended to show the community the approximate locations of the reports by month.”

Statistics*:

In 2022, three incidents were classified as being anti-Semitic.  These were related to mischief calls (which would include graffiti).

In 2021, eight incidents were classified as being anti-Semitic.  Seven were related to mischief calls (including graffiti) and one to a break and enter call.
