Weapons Offences Arrest
Two 20-year-old GTA men are facing numerous charges after officers located a loaded handgun during a routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
Just after 1:00am on January 11, 2023, an officer on general patrol in the London Street and Water Street area noticed a vehicle being driven without any lights on and failing to signal a turn. The officer conducted a routine traffic stop. During the stop, officers noticed that there were drugs in plain sight in the vehicle and the driver and passenger were taken into custody. When officers searched the vehicle, they also found
- Loaded handgun
- Cocaine – 12 grams
- Oxycodone pills – 24+
- Marijuana – 63 grams
- Quantity of Canadian currency – Less than $5000
- Drug paraphernalia
- Cell phones
As a result of the investigation:
A 20-year-old North York man and a 20-year-old Toronto man were arrested and charged with:
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
The 20-year-old North York man was further charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences:
- Drive - hand held communication device
- Drive without proper headlights - motor vehicle
- Fail to signal for turn
- Improper left turn
- Driver fail to surrender licence
- Fail to have insurance card
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Both accused were held in custody and will appear in court today, January 11, 2023.
Aggravated Assault Arrest - Update
A fourth person has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault in September 2022.
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the accused, who was wanted on a warrant, attended the Peterborough Police Station and turned himself in.
As a result, an 18-year-old Brampton man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Forcible Confinement
- Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
The accused was held in custody and will appear in court today, January 11, 2023.
