Fraud Arrest

A 40-year-old Peterborough woman is facing several charges after an incident involving a fraudulent cheque. 

Recently, the Peterborough Police fraud investigator was made aware of an incident in which suspicious activity was noticed on their 92-year-old family member’s bank account.  Through investigation it was discovered that a cheque had be used and deposited to the account of a personal support worker who had been in the home.  Further investigation discovered a second cheque given to the accused’s child by a family member that was altered to reflect a different amount.

As a result, 40-year-old Darlene Wellington of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 in Canada
• Possession of a forged document with intent

The accused’s name in this case is being released because there is concern that there may be other victims in the community. 

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, 2022.

Assault Suspect Sought

Peterborough Police are investigating after an incident in the north end of Peterborough.

Just after midnight on June 7, 2022, officers were called to the area of Towerhill Road and Chemong Road.  Upon arrival, officers learned that the male victim had been walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by another male.  As the two passed the male grabbed the victim and the victim saw a knife.  The victim broke free and ran away.   Officers canvassed the area but did not locate a suspect

The suspect is described to police as:

• Male, Black
• Early 20’s
• Short hair
• Blue T-Shirt
• Pants
