Second Degree Murder Arrest
A 29-year-old Peterborough man is facing a second degree murder charge in connection with the death of an infant in 2021.
On November 2, 2021, a 2-month-old infant was taken to PRHC in distress at around 4:30am. The infant was eventually stabilized and then transported to The Hospital for Sick Children by Ornge air ambulance. On November 6, 2021, the infant died after being taken off life support equipment.
The investigation was turned over to the Peterborough Police Major Crime – Homicide Unit after medical testing revealed that the infant had sustained catastrophic internal injuries.
The 18-month investigation involved Peterborough Police detectives, the Coroner’s Office, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) unit at the Hospital for Sick Children, Durham Regional Police and Toronto Police Service.
As a result of the investigation on Thursday, May 18, a 29-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Aggravated Assault
The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court on Friday, May 19, 2023.
In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.
