Back-to-School Traffic Enforcement
The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting school zone and community zone traffic enforcement and education during the first week of back-to-school.
Throughout the week, officers attended several locations in all three of our policing areas. These included Bensfort Drive & Collison Avenue, Hilliard Street & Marina Boulevard, Goodfellow Road and St.Mary’s Street in Peterborough; Sherbrooke Street and Longview Drive in the Township of Cavan-Monaghan and several locations in Lakefield.
As a result, officers issued:
- 35 Provincial Offence Notices
- 9 Warnings
- 2 Part 3 Summons - These require a court appearance and could result in increased penalties
A reminder that in the City of Peterborough school zones have been dedicated as community safety zones with lower speeds and increased penalties.

Assault Cause Bodily Harm Arrest
Two women are facing charges after an altercation Sunday night.
At approximately 6:15pm on September 8, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the Walker Avenue and Marsdale Drive area about a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located an injured woman outside the residence with EMS and an injured woman inside the residence. The women were known to each other. Officers also seized a knife from the home. Both women were taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.
As a result of the investigation:
An 18-year-old Lindsay woman was arrested and charged with:
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 22, 2024.
A 19-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 22, 2024.
Assault Arrest
A 32-year-old Ajax man is facing a charge after an incident early Saturday morning.
At approximately 12:30am on September 7, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the Goodfellow Road and Clonsilla Avenue area about a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that a woman was struck in the face by her partner before he the fled the home. PSD Gryphon was called and despite the rain, PSD Gryphon was able to locate the suspect several blocks away. When the suspect refused to listen to officer demands; PSD Gryphon conducted a bark and hold while another officer drew their conducted energy weapon. The suspect complied and was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Ajax man was arrested and charged:
- Assault – Spousal
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 22, 2024.
Break and Enter Arrest
A 52-year-old Bridgenorth man is facing several charges in connection with break and enters in Peterborough early Saturday morning.
On September 7, 2024, officers received calls from three businesses, one in the Rye Street area and two in a plaza on Stenson Boulevard. In each case the front door of the business was smashed in, but nothing was taken.
At approximately noon, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Chemong Road and Bellevue Street after spotting a vehicle matching the description of one believed to be connected to the break and enters. A male in the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a baseball bat, a crowbar, a screwdriver and a chisel.
Aa a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old Bridgenorth man was arrested and charged with:
- Break, Enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence X3
- Possession Break In Instruments
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order X3
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court on September 8, 2024.
