Weapons Arrest
Two Peterborough area men are facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 1:00am on June 23, 2024, officers were called to the area of George Street and Sherbrooke Street after reports of a gunshot in a parking lot. Officers attended the area and learned that a gunshot had been heard and two men were seen getting into a white vehicle and leaving the area. A short time later a vehicle matching the description given to police was spotted on Lansdowne Street in the High Street area travelling on the wrong side of the road without any lights on. Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop in the Lansdowne Street and The Parkway area. The driver was taken into custody without incident. Officers further noticed signs of impairment with the driver. The male passenger was arrested at gunpoint without incident and a handgun seized.
As a result of the investigation,
A 24-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not possess any weapons.
A 28-year-old Ennismore man was arrested and charged with:
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Both accused were held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on June 23, 2024.
Warrant Arrest
A 29-year-old Peterborough man wanted on a warrant was arrested after an incident Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the area of Hunter Street and Aylmer Street area about a disturbance upon arrival they learned that one of the people involved was wanted in connection with a robbery earlier in June.
As a result, a 29-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with:
- Robbery with Weapon x2
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 6, 2024.
Motor Vehicle Collision - Update
The Peterborough Police Service investigated a motor vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 2:50pm on June 22, 2024, officers were called to the area of McDonnel Street and Stewart Street. Through investigation officers learned that a pedestrian was struck when the pedestrian entered the road unsafely. A child under the age of 10 was injured and taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
No charges are expected.
