Attempt Homicide Arrest – Update
The Peterborough Police Service is providing an update on an intimate partner violence (IPV) incident that happened on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
At approximately 11:00pm on July 6, 2024, officers were called to the area of Brock Street and Aylmer Street after reports of gun shots fired at a building. Officers attended and were given a description of the suspect. They searched the area, but the suspect was not located. One person was struck by particles from a shotgun shell. They were treated at the scene by EMS and released.
On Sunday, July 7, 2024, officers on patrol in the Simcoe Street and Aylmer Street spotted a man matching the description of the suspect. The suspect was approached and taken into custody at gunpoint without incident. After arrest, officers seized 1 spent shell casing and two unspent shells. The firearm was not located.
As a result, a 28-year-old Peterborough man was charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm X2
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
In order to protect the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be released.
There is no threat to public safety as a result of this incident.

Drug Arrest
A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an investigation by the Peterborough Police Drug Unit.
On Friday, July 5, 2024, officers with the drug unit executed two search warrants one on a vehicle and another on a Peterborough residence.
Between the two searches, officers seized (picture below):
- 290 grams of Cocaine
- 8 grams of Fentanyl
- Approximately $60,000 in Canadian Currency
As a result, a 32-year-old Peterborough was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 - in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Fentanyl
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Break and Enter/Firearm Arrest
A 54-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a break and enter was reported to police on Sunday morning.
At approximately 8:00am on July 7, 2024, a break and enter was discovered at a storage unit in the High Street and Lansdowne Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that a gun safe with 12 long guns had been stolen, along with ammunition. Through investigation, a suspect was identified. Around 3:00pm officers located the suspect in the George Street North and Townsend Street area. He was taken into custody without incident.
Officers then executed a search warrant in the area of Park Street South and Lansdowne Street. All of the long guns and ammunition were located on the property.
As a result, a 54-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Break, Enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence
- Theft Under $5000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, July 8, 2024.
Assault Arrest
A 58-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an intimate partner violence (IPV) incident.
The incident happened on Thursday, July 4, 2024 during an outing at a Peterborough business when a woman was stabbed and verbally threatened by her partner. The 52-year-old victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. While taking the report on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the officer and the victim were approached by the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.
As a result, a 58-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon
- Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm-Spousal
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court August 20, 2024.
Impaired Arrest
A 24-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:00am on July 6, 2024, officers were called to the area of Dranoel Road and Syer Line about a vehicle in the ditch near the train tracks. Upon arrival, officers determined there had been four people in the vehicle and in speaking with driver observed signs of impairment.
As a result, a 24-year-old Oshawa man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 20, 2024.
