Assault/Warrant Arrest

A 44-year-old Peterborough woman is facing several charges after an incident Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 4:50pm on July 16, 2023, an officer on general patrol in the Brock Street and Bethune Street area spotted a woman known to be wanted on several warrants.  The officer stopped the woman, however, during the conversation, the woman fled on foot.  The officer followed, chasing the woman onto the Trans Canada Trail and through Jackson Creek before they were able to catch up and take the woman into custody.  Several officers arrived to assist and while the accused was being taken to a police car, started resisting arrest and then kicked an officer and spat in their face twice.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Peterborough was arrested on the strength of the warrant and further charged with:

• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Assault a Peace Officer X3

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, July 17, 2023.

Traffic Stop Suspect Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is searching for a man who fled from police during a traffic stop early Saturday morning. 

At approximately 1:20am on July 15, 2023, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle driving down George Street without lights on and then saw the vehicle go through a red light at Charlotte Street and Aylmer Street.  The officer conducted a traffic stop during which the driver gave a false name. As the officer was checking the driver’s identity, the vehicle took off.   The officer followed and saw the vehicle go through several parking lots before the driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.  Officers, including K9, searched the area of Dalhousie Street and Aylmer Street with negative results. 

The suspect is described as:

• Male
• Brown skin colour
• Approximately 40-50 years old
• 5'5”
• Curly dark hair
• Black hat
• Grey sweater
• Black shorts

Assault Arrest

A 51-year-old Peterborough man is facing two charges after a disturbance early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:23am on July 15, 2023, officers were called about a disturbance at a business in the George Street North and Brock Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that an employee had been struck in the face by a customer who was continuing to cause a disturbance.  When pointed out, the male fled on foot before being taken into custody a short distance away.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault
• Causing a Disturbance

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court August 8, 2023.
