Attempt Murder Arrest

A 69-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including attempt to commit murder after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 11:05pm on January 6, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the Sophia Street and Burnham Street area.  Upon arrival, the 70-year-old female victim was being treated by EMS.  Officers learned that she had been attacked by her partner several times and had been choked, verbally threatened, and threatened with a knife before she fled the residence and the suspect left the area.  Shortly after, the man was located at his residence in the Reid Street and Parkhill Road area and taken into custody. 

As a result of the investigation, a 69-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Attempt to Commit Murder
• Uttering threats to cause death
• Assault with a Weapon - Spousal
• Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on January 7, 2024.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Assault Arrest

A 37-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 9:30pm on January 6, 2024, officers received calls to the area of Hunter Street and Stewart Street area about a male in a vehicle chasing a woman on foot.  Upon arrival, officers located a 26-year-old woman who reported that she had been verbally threatened and choked.  She had been able to escape the vehicle and found two Good Samaritan’s.  Officers were able to locate a suspect, matching the description given to police, a short distance away and took him into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person
• Assault – Spousal
• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm-Spousal

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court January 7, 2024.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Impaired/Assault Peace Officer Arrest

A 24-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:00am on January 7, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the Clonsilla Avenue and Sherbrooke Street area about a disturbance.  Upon arrival officers, spotted a vehicle in the driveway running.  Officers knocked on the driver’s side window several times before the driver opened the door. The officers noticed signs of impairment.  The driver initially refused to identify himself, became aggressive and started yelling at officers.  During the arrest, he resisted, and verbally threatened, punched, and kicked the officers.   

As a result, a 24-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault a Peace Officer
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impound.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court January 30, 2024.
