Pursuit Arrest
A 20-year-old Etobicoke man is facing numerous charges after a police pursuit early Friday morning.
At approximately 7:00pm on July 13, 2023, officers were made aware of a stolen vehicle by Peterborough County OPP. Just after 1:00am on Friday, July 14, 2023, officers on general patrol in the George Street and Perry Street spotted the vehicle and followed at a safe distance. A second officer spotted the vehicle in the Airport Road and Spillsbury Road area and activated their emergency lights. The suspect vehicle fled onto Highway 115. OPP were able to deploy two spike belts causing damage to the passenger side tires, however the vehicle still did not stop. About 45 minutes later, the vehicle was once again spotted in the City of Peterborough (Brealey Drive and Stenson Avenue area) by Peterborough Police driving on the rims and without lights on. Officers followed from a safe distance. As the suspect vehicle approached a cruiser with its lights activated in the Barnardo Avenue and McClennan Street area, the suspect attempted to evade police by jumping the curb, travelling across several lawns and striking a police cruiser before coming to a stop.
The driver then jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Two officers followed and deployed their Conducted Energy Weapons. The suspect was then taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old Etobicoke man was arrested and charged with:
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada (stolen vehicle)
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to surrender suspended, revoked or cancelled licence (Highway Traffic Act)
- Operate unsafe vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner (Highway Traffic Act)
- Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates (Highway Traffic Act)
- Drive without proper headlights - motor vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
- Driving while under suspension - while suspended under HTA Sec 41/42(Highway Traffic Act)
- Driving while under suspension(Highway Traffic Act)
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available (Cannabis Control Act)
The accused is currently bound by a release order with the following condition to remain in their residence unless in the presence of their surety. The accused is also bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, July 14, 2023.
Impaired Arrest
A 71-year-old Selwyn Township woman is facing impaired charges after a collision Thursday evening in Peterborough.
At approximately 7:40pm on July 13, 2023, officers were called to the intersection of George Street and Sherbrooke Street about a collision between a vehicle and cyclist and there were concerns the driver of the vehicle was impaired. Upon arrival, officers learned that the cyclist was not injured and noticed signs of impairment with the driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 71-year-old Selwyn Township woman was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 1, 2023.
