Public Safety – Parolee
Peterborough Police is aware that a 79-year-old federal parolee has been assigned to a Peterborough halfway house. The parolee is at a place where there is oversight. Should that change and the level of public safety be impacted more information could be released by an order of the Chief of Police.
As part of their sentence, the parolee was also put on the provincial Sex Offender Registry (SOR) which requires anyone on that registry to report to the local police of jurisdiction on an annual basis. In addition, Peterborough Police Service officers engage in checks on individuals on the SOR to ensure compliance with the conditions of their release.
Mischief Arrest
A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after two incidents Thursday morning.
At approximately 9:30am on January 26, 2023, officers were called to a business in the George Street North and Simcoe Street area about a man who had broken a glass window in a door. Officers arrived on scene and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
A couple of hours later officers were called back to the area on a second report of a glass window of door being smashed. Through investigation it was determined to be the same suspect. Officers were able to locate a man matching the description given to police a short distance away and took him into custody.
As a result, a 45-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Mischief Under $ 5,000 X2

The accused is currently on a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
