Choose to Be CAMSafe
The CAMSafe program is a new tool adopted by the Peterborough Police Service to help fight crime. It is a volunteer registry of home security cameras, ring cameras, and business security cameras.
Officers can use the registry to learn if there is video available in the area where a crime has taken place. Some of the incidents could be people attending homes as part of grandparent scams, suspicious activity in a neighbourhood, major crimes or driving complaints.
Currently, officers must canvass an area each time there is an incident to enquire about cameras and available video. This volunteer registry will help cut down on time spent on that activity and increase time solving the crime.
The program was developed by the Belleville Police Service after an incident in 2019 that required officers to spend a significant amount of time canvassing for video.
Registering does not give the Peterborough Police Service access to your system.
