Money Scam
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating a money scam and would like the public to be aware after prop money was exchanged in an online marketplace sale.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, it was reported that a woman who had sold her cellphone on Facebook Marketplace was given prop money which is used in movies (image below) and not real currency.
If you are buying and selling on online sites, please consider suggesting e-transfer before handing over the item and if you do accept cash to examine the bills closely.
Anyone with information is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca
