Vehicle Safety Blitz
Members of the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit conducted a vehicle safety blitz Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Lakefield. The focus was on pick up trucks and commercial vehicles.
Over the course of the day, officers conducted inspections on seven vehicles and laid the following charges:
- Provincial Offence Notice – Part III: 14
- Provincial Offence Notice: 10
- Warnings: 6
- Plates Seized: 2
- Vehicles Deemed Unsafe: 2
- Vehicles Taken Out of Service: 1
Among the infractions for the Part III offences were defective brakes, operate unsafe vehicle, not conforming to emission standards, overweight, no valid certificate.
The Traffic Unit has a Certified Commercial Vehicle Inspector and is focused on ensuring safety on our roads. One of the ways to accomplish this is to complete vehicle inspections.
RIDE Results
The Peterborough Police Service conducted three RIDE checks over the weekend. One in Lakefield, a second in Cavan-Monaghan and the third was mobile throughout the area.
In total, 107 vehicles were checked with eight tests administered and eight passing. One person was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for an invalid permit.
The Service continues to conduct RIDE checks throughout the year. Please do not drive impaired; plan for a ride home and call 9-1-1 if you do suspect an impaired driver is on our roads.
