Assault Peace Officer Arrest
A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Sunday evening.
At approximately 11:00pm on May 15, 2022, an officer on bike patrol was speaking with a resident in the George Street and Simcoe Street area when a man approached and pushed the officer. The officer attempted to deescalate the situation however, the man continued to kick the officer’s bike to get to the officer, even trying to grab the conducted energy weapon on the officer’s vest.
The officer was able to take the man into custody and was not injured.
As a result, a 33-year-old Peterborough was arrested and charged with:
- Assault Peace Officer
- Disarm Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Probation
The accused was held in custody and will appear in court today, May 16, 2022.
Theft Arrest
A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Saturday morning.
At approximately 11:00am on May 14, 2022, officers were called to a business in the Chemong Road and Wolsely Street area about a theft. Upon arrival, officers learned a man had left the store without any attempt to pay for items. Officers located a man matching the description provided to police at another business and attempted to take the man into custody. When the man continually failed to comply with police commands, the officer deployed their conducted energy weapon and was able to take the man into custody without further incident.
As a result, a 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Resist Peace Officer
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 8, 2022.
During the investigation it was also learned that the man was wanted on a warrant in another jurisdiction and was returned to the other service.
