Homecoming/Head of the Trent Weekend
Ahead of the Head of the Trent/homecoming weekend (October 4-6, 2024), the Peterborough Police Service, Trent University, Peterborough Emergency Management, Peterborough Fire Services, Peterborough City-County Paramedics, and the City of Peterborough gathered to speak to the importance of celebrating safely.
Over the next few days as all things Trent will be celebrated on and off-campus, we remind students and residents to celebrate safely and respectfully. For the past number of months, we have worked together to develop a coordinated response to see us through the weekend. This involves increasing staffing levels for all emergency services to be prepared to ensure the safety of those connected to celebrations and the community at large.
Part of the advanced planning also included meetings with neighbours and students. The Peterborough Police Auxiliary Unit visited areas that have seen an increase in unsanctioned student activity in previous years to offer suggestions on improving property safety. The feedback on this effort has been that it was appreciated and well-received.
During large events, our 9-1-1 communicators tend to receive more calls about noise, disturbances, mischief, damage to property, and impaired driving.
We are asking that if you are celebrating to be safe, make sure everyone gets home safe and that you are being a good neighbour and community member.
We are also asking for the community’s help in ensuring the safety of all and to call if they spot any suspicious or concerning activity.
We know that this is a time of celebration, and we would like to see a positive and safe experience for all.
