Weapons / Drugs Arrest
An 18-year-old GTA man is facing 16 charges after an incident on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 6:00pm on June 27, 2023, officers on general patrol in the area of London Street and Aylmer Street noticed a male who was on a condition to not be in Peterborough. When officers stopped the male, he provided a false name and when officers indicated who they thought him to be he took off on foot. Officers chased the male through a parking lot to a backyard. One of the officers drew their conducted energy weapon and the male was taken into custody without incident. A search, after arrest, of a bag the male was carrying revealed:
- Loaded handgun
- Ammunition
- 80.7 grams - Fentanyl
- 49.3 grams - Cocaine
- 62.7 grams - Marijuana
- $2000+ in Canadian currency
It was further determined that the handgun had been reported stolen in York Region in 2018.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old GTA man was arrested and charged with:
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtain by crime
- Possession of firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by Crime knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin) Fentanyl
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
- Failure to comply with undertaking
The accused is currently bound by a release order with the following conditions to not be in in the City of Peterborough except for required court appearances or to meet with legal counsel.
The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following conditions to not possess any Schedule Substance listed in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
The accused was also wanted on a warrant in another jurisdiction.
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, June 28, 2023.
Fire Investigation
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a vehicle fire early Wednesday morning.
Just before 1:00am on June 28, 2023, officers were called to a parking lot in the Dublin Street and Aylmer Street area. Peterborough Fire Services extinguished the fire which was in a pick-up truck and there were no injuries reported.
