Traffic Initiative – August – Speeding
The Peterborough Police Service wants you to enjoy the summer by slowing down.
Members of the Traffic Unit will be focusing on speed enforcement throughout the month of August.
“Speeding is a serious risk to public safety, for the people in a vehicle, other motorists and pedestrians of all ages,” says Sergeant Jeff Chartier, Traffic Services Unit. “Statistics from the Ministry of Transportation show that speed-related collisions accounted for almost 18% of fatalities on Ontario roads in 2022.”
Speeding Ticket/Fine Information:

Theft Arrest
A 28-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges in connection with several thefts from businesses in Peterborough.
On August 1, 2023, officers were called to a business in the Water Street and Charlotte Street area about a woman who had hopped a counter and took off with cash twice in the previous week. Officers were then dispatched after two reports came in from businesses on George Street North about a woman who had entered the stores and taken money from the front counter. At approximately 10:30pm on August 1, 2023, officers spotted a female matching the description of the woman given to police and took her into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Theft Under $5000 X4
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking
The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following condition to stay away from one of the businesses where the theft occurred.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court August 22, 2023.
