MVC – The Parkway
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a single vehicle collision on The Parkway early Tuesday morning.
Just before 4:00am on July 4, 2023, officers were called to The Parkway between Lansdowne Street and The Kingsway about a motorcycle collision. The driver was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being airlifted to a trauma hospital.
The Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
The roadway was reopened just before 10:00am on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
Weapons Arrest
A 19-year-old Peterborough man is now facing several charges after an incident Sunday evening.
At approximately 9:00pm on July 2, 2023, officers were called to the area of Goodfellow Road and Sherbrooke Street about a disturb the peace call. Upon arrival, officers learned that two males had been in a dispute during which one of the males was threatened with what appeared to be a handgun and struck with a vehicle before the car fled the area. The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of injuries.
On Monday, July 3, 2023, officers on bicycle patrol spotted a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with the incident the previous evening. Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop in the Water Street and Charlotte Street area and took a male matching the description given to police into custody without incident. During a search after arrest officers located a replica pellet gun.
As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Failure to stop after accident
- Dangerous operation
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, July 4, 2023.
Assault with a Weapon Arrest
A 37-year-old Toronto man is facing charges after an incident Saturday evening.
At approximately 8:30pm on July 1, 2023, officers were called to a disturbance at an event on County Road 28 in Fraserville. Upon arrival officers learned that a male had gotten into a confrontation with a security guard and tossed a canned beverage at them. The suspect then struggled with security and officers as they were trying to remove him from the property and place him in a police vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Toronto man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court July 25, 2023.
Refusal to Comply with Demand Arrest
A 31-year-old Curve Lake man is facing charges after an incident early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 1:30am on July 4, 2023, an officer conducting speed enforcement on Lansdowne Street East recorded a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in a 50 km/h. The officer activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle did not stop and was seen to go through a red light at River Road before pulling over. The officer noticed signs of impairment with the driver who refused to comply with the breath demand. A refusing to comply with demand charge carries the same penalties as an impaired driving charge.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Curve Lake man was arrested and charged with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Speeding 83km/hr in a posted 50km/hr zone (Highway Traffic Act)
- Red light fail to stop ( Highway Traffic Act)
The accused received a 90-day automatic license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court July 25, 2023.
