Stunt Driving Charge
A 19-year-old Brampton man is facing a stunt driving charge after a traffic stop in the Township of Cavan-Monaghan.
At approximately 10:50am on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, an officer conducting a speed enforcement detail on Highway 7A and Tapley Quarter Line when they recorded a vehicle travelling eastbound on 7A at approximately 160km/h in an 80km/hr zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver was issued tickets for:
- Speeding-(Highway Traffic Act)
- Stunt driving- race a motor vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
As a result, the driver also received a 30-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment.
Theft Arrest
A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges in connection with two theft incidents.
At approximately 3:30pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, officers with the Community FIRST Unit were called to a theft in progress report at the Home Depot on Lansdowne Street and Park Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that when confronted the man dropped the item and fled the area. Police located a man matching the description given to police on the trail behind the store.
As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft Under $5000
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
The accused is currently bound by a release order to remain off of the store property.
During the investigation it was determined that the same person was wanted in connection with the theft of a camera from a front porch in early October. The homeowner had filed an online report about the incident at that time.
The accused was further charged with a second count of:
- Theft Under $5000
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, December 12, 2024.
Stolen Vehicle Arrest
A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges in connection with a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was reported stolen on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 by a resident in the Clayton Avenue and York Drive area. Through investigation a suspect was identified and a warrant for arrest was asked for and issued.
At approximately 11:30pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, the suspect attended the Peterborough Police Station to turn themselves in. The vehicle was left under the canopy and two people were still in the vehicle with it running. Officers blocked the vehicle in to prevent it from leaving. The two people in the vehicle were released unconditionally. The vehicle returned to the owner.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court January 21, 2025.
Break and Enter Suspect Sought
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating a break and enter to a business in Peterborough.
At approximately 1:20am on Sunday, November 17, 2024, a male on a black and silver bicycle attended a barber shop on River Road South and appeared to scope out the building. He then used a tool to pry open the window on the south side door and reached in to unlock the door. The male then left the area and returned several minutes later entering through the unlocked door.
It’s believed over $3200 in money, items from the business and memorabilia was taken.
The suspect is described as: (Images for assistance)
- White male
- Between 45 and 65 years old
- Slim build, grey beard and moustache, shoulder length unkempt hair
- Wearing a black winter coat, black toque, black gloves, dark skinny jeans, grey and white sneakers
- Carrying a dark backpack
