Weapons Arrest
A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing weapons, drugs and traffic charges after an incident late Sunday evening.
At approximately 11:40pm on September 24, 2023, an officer on general patrol noticed a cyclist operating unsafely in the area McDonnel Street and Bethune Street. When the officer activated their emergency lights the cyclist refused to stop. Officers continued to order the cyclist to stop as they followed him with their emergency lights on to the intersection of Stewart Street and Bethune where he was arrested and taken into custody. During the arrest the suspect kept trying to reach for a bag he was wearing. Once in custody, officers searched the suspect and found the following in the bag (picture of items below):
- A loaded handgun
- 61.8 grams of cocaine
- 14.4 grams of fentanyl
- Over $2300 in Canadian Currency
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a Firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs
Highway Traffic Act
- Cyclist - fail to stop
- Cyclist - ride in crosswalk
- Improper bicycle lighting
- Fail to wear proper helmet on bicycle
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, September 25, 2023.
Traffic Stop – Vehicle Flees
The Peterborough Police Service is asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle that fled from a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
At approximately 1:50am on September 23, 2023, an officer on general patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of George Street and Lansdowne Street for a vehicle with no license plate. Initially, the vehicle stopped for the officer, but when the officer approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped off. A short pursuit was called off. The vehicle was last seen heading westbound at Lansdowne Street and Monaghan Road.
Vehicle described as:
- Grey Hyundai Genesis
- No license plate

The traffic stop was captured through the Peterborough Police Service in-car camera system and the video is being provided in an effort to help identify the vehicle and driver.

Warrant Arrest
A 16-year-old Peterborough male wanted on warrants is now facing several new charges after an incident last week.
On Friday, September 22, 2023, the male, with the presence of a parent, turned himself in to police. Earlier in the week, a warrant had been issued for the 16-year-old after a vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle was recovered at the time of arrest.
As a result, a 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested on the strength of the warrants and further charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
The accused was held in custody, appeared in court on Saturday, September 23, 2023, and was remanded into custody at that time.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young offender cannot be released.
