Arson Investigation
The Peterborough Police Service is asking anyone with information about a fire that happened in the City of Peterborough early Saturday morning to come forward.
At approximately 12:20am on January 27, 2024, the fire at the residence on Margaret Avenue was spotted and called in. The home had just been sold and was empty at the time. No one was injured in the fire.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has since determined the circumstances to be suspicious and the Peterborough Police Service is investigating.
Officers canvassed the area on Saturday.

Impaired Arrest
A 47-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Friday morning.
At approximately 11:40am on January 26, 2024, officers were called by a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver that had just left a parking lot in the Crawford Drive and The Parkway area. About 20 minutes later, a second call was received from a concerned citizen about a male driver, possibly impaired, in the Westcott Street and George Street area. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police in both calls. During a conversation with the man officers noticed signs of impairment and took him into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner (Highway Traffic Act)
- Drive motor vehicle, no permit (Highway Traffic Act)
- Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court February 13, 2024.
Impaired Arrest
A 36-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 4:00pm on January 27, 2024, officers received a call about a possible impaired driver after a vehicle was spotted hitting several curbs in the Parkhill Road and Chandler Crescent area. Upon arrival a vehicle matching the description given to police was located in the walking trail parking lot in the Parkhill Road and Ravenwood Drive area. Officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment with the driver. It was further learned that the vehicle had been taken without consent of the owner. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 13, 2024.
