Harassment Arrest

A 40-year-old Peterborough man is facing several criminal charges after an incident Friday morning.

At approximately 7:15am on February 3, 2023, officers were called to the bus terminal on Simcoe Street about a man acting erratically and threatening an individual on a bus.  Upon arrival, officers learned that the male had followed a passenger onto a city bus and showed them a knife. The victim became scared and immediately notified the bus driver.

K9 Gryphon and PC Wentworth were on duty and attended.  They located a man matching the description given to police near the bus terminal and were able to take him into custody without incident.  During a search after arrest, officers located a knife on the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Criminal Harassment - repeatedly follow
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was also wanted on a warrant and is currently bound by a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court, February 3, 2023.

Assault Arrest

A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after two incidents Friday morning.

At approximately 8:15am on February 3, 2023, officers were called to the area of George Street North and Simcoe Street after a report of a male who had become aggressive when asked to leave a business.  Upon arrival, officers learned that the male had verbally threatened an employee and shoved them and then after leaving the business approached a person on the street and aggressively removed their employee ID tag from around their neck. 

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault X2
• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
• Theft Under $5000
• Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.  He is also bound by a release order to stay away from the business. 

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court February 3, 2023.

Assault Arrest

A 47-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an incident Sunday morning.

At approximately 11:30am on February 5, 2023, officers were called to the intersection of Charlotte Street and Water Street in Peterborough about a woman in the middle of the road and that the woman had been chasing and attempting to attack the complainant. Upon arrival, officers located the woman in the intersection and asked her to move to the sidewalk. The woman complied however, started to exhibit behaviour that made officers concerned for her safety.   Based on the call for service and the behaviour of the woman during the call, officers attempted to apprehend her when she turned on the officer and assaulted them before fleeing the area on foot.  Officers caught up to the woman who then tried to strike them with a handbag before they were able to take her into custody. 

As a result of the investigation, the 47-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Assault a Peace Officer
• Fail to Comply with Probation

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

The accused was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for assessment and released from police custody on an undertaking.  The accused is scheduled to appear in court February 21, 2023.

Impaired Arrest

A 54-year-old Selwyn Township man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Sunday evening.

At approximately 5:00pm on February 5, 2023, officers were called to the area of Reid Street and McDonnel Street after a citizen called in to say a vehicle had left the road and struck a fence.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle and noticed obvious signs of impairment. 

As a result of the investigation a 54-year-old Selwyn Township man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 22, 2023.

Assault Arrest

A 25-year-old Peterborough man is facing a number of charges after an incident Sunday evening. 

At approximately 9:15pm on February 5, 2023, officers were called to a residence by a concerned resident.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a verbal argument between a man and a woman had escalated, and that the man broke the woman’s phone, threw a toy truck at her, choked, and pushed her before leaving the residence.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Peterborough was arrested and charged with:  

• Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, suffocate or strangle
• Assault – Spousal
• Mischief Under $ 5,000
• Assault with a Weapon – Spousal

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today, February 6, 2023.
