Assault with a Weapon Arrest
Two people are facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.
At approximately 1:00am on February 25, 2023, officers were called to a residence in the Chamberlain Street and Goodfellow Road area. Upon arrival, they learned that a group of teens had been trying to get into the residence before running away. The homeowner went outside and was approached by a teen brandishing a knife and verbally threatened. The homeowner managed to knock the knife away and was then attacked by a female before the pair fled. The homeowner was not injured in the incident.
Police Service Dog Gryphon was called in and led officers on a track to the area of Clonsilla Avenue and Western Avenue where a male matching the description given to police was spotted. The suspect took off and officers chased on foot before taking the male into custody.
Meanwhile, an officer spotted a female matching the description given to police walking in the area of Goodfellow Road and Chamberlain Street and took her into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation:
A 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with A Weapon
- Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
An 18-year-old Peterborough female was arrested and charged with:
- Assault
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court March 21, 2023.
Impaired Arrest
A 22-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 2:30am on February 26, 2023, officers were called to a single vehicle collision in the George Street and Ware Street area after a car collided with a hydro pole. Upon arrival, officers noticed obvious signs of impairment with the driver. No one was injured in the collision but the power was knocked out in the area.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued a 90-day automatic license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court March 22, 2023.
Impaired Arrest
A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 4:00am on February 26, 2023, officers received a call from a passerby that a vehicle had struck a pole in the Reid Street and Scott Street area. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and noticed obvious signs of impairment with the driver. The driver was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Careless driving (Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to have insurance card (Comprehensive Automobile Insurance Act)
The accused was issued a 90-day automatic license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court March 15, 2023.
Assault Arrest
A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Sunday evening.
At approximately 11:50pm on February 26, 2023, officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the Brock Street and Aylmer Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect was acting aggressively toward others and had punched a paramedic attempting to help. Officers attempted to speak to the man, when he punched an officer in the face and struck a second officer. Officers were able to control the man before he was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.
Officers seized approximately 10 grams of Psilocybin.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault
- Assault a peace officer X2
- Fail to comply with probation
- Possession of a Schedule III Substance - Psilocybin
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court March 15, 2023.
