Historical Sexual Assault
A 67-year-old former Peterborough resident is facing charges in connection with a historical sexual assault.
In January 2024, Peterborough Police Service Sex Unit detectives were made aware of incidents that happened in the early 1990’s when the victim was 16 years old and placed into the care of a Peterborough family. It was learned that the incidents had continued for several years. Through investigation the suspect was located in Quebec.
On September 26, 2024, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for the suspect and on October 10, 2024, the warrant was executed by officers in Quebec and the suspect was brought back to Peterborough by officers with Peterborough Police.
As a result, a 67-year-old former Peterborough woman was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with:
- Sexual Exploitation X2
- Sexual Assault
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, October 11, 2024.
Assault Suspect Sought
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after an incident Wednesday night.
At approximately 8:50pm on October 9, 2024, officers were called to the area of George Street and Dalhousie Street about a suspicious male with a knife striking a garbage can and a light post. Upon arrival, officers attempted to locate the suspicious male but did not see anyone in the area. As they expanded their search, they were approached by a male who collapsed in the intersection. It was determined the male was suffering from a stab wound and was take to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment before being flown to a Toronto-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was described to police as:
- Male
- Early to mid 20s
- Long Hair
- Wearing a brown t-shirt and brown pants

Robbery Arrest
A 58-year-old Omemee man is facing a charge after an incident Tuesday evening.
At approximately 6:50pm on October 8, 2024, officers were called to Chemong Road business. Upon arrival, they learned that a security guard had attempted to stop a woman from leaving with several bags of items that were not paid for. The guard and the woman got into a struggle over the bags, the guard got the bags back and the woman got into a vehicle driven by a male. The guard then realized their phone was missing, called the phone from another phone and could hear it inside the vehicle. The driver refused to give the phone back to the guard, shoved him and took off in the vehicle.
Through investigation, officers located the driver, and he was charged with:
- Robbery with theft
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court November 12, 2024.
Head of the Trent/Homecoming Weekend – Update
Thank you to our residents and community partners Trent University, Peterborough Fire Services, Peterborough Paramedics and the City of Peterborough for their support during the Head of the Trent and homecoming festivities during the weekend of October 4-6, 2024.
On Saturday, October 4, 2024, officers responded to 27 calls for service directly related to activities as a result of it being homecoming/Head of the Trent weekend. These calls for service included noise and disturbance calls, unwanted and suspicious person calls, mischief, property-related and traffic complaints. This is up from 22 reported incidents in 2023. No charges were laid.
