Record Check Changes
The Peterborough Police Service is hiring a new full-time person dedicated to Record Checks.
“The Service understands and empathizes with the community’s frustrations caused by the backlog and wait times which is now 6-8 weeks. It’s also anticipated that requests for Record Checks will continue to grow with our community. As a result, the Service sought and received approval from the Police Services Board to hire one additional General Inquiry Clerk dedicated to Record Checks,” says Neil Collins, Inspector of Support Services. “However, to help offset the cost of the new position there will be a slight increase in the fees for record check services.”
Starting Monday, May 9, 2022 the fees will be:
- Employment (includes requests for personal use and student placement/volunteer (requiring Vulnerable Sector check without an organization letter) - $45 (increase of $8)
- Student Placement/Volunteer requiring Vulnerable Sector check (with organization letter) - $20 (increase $10)
- Record Suspension (pardon) - $50 (increase $13)
- Additional copies of record checks - $5 (increase $4)
The fees for record checks through the Peterborough Police Service were last adjusted in 2017 and continue to be below the provincial average.
Peterborough Police Service is also following the Province of Ontario legislation that police services can no longer charge a fee for Record Checks associated with volunteering (this legislation does not include record checks for volunteers requiring a vulnerable sector check).
