Fire – Rubidge Street - Update
The Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) has completed the investigation into a fatal fire in Peterborough October 1, 2024, and has ruled that the fire was accidental.
As a result of the Fire Marshal’s ruling, the police investigation is considered completed.

Impaired Arrest
A 37-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an incident Monday evening.
At approximately 10:00pm on October 7, 2024, an officer on general patrol saw a vehicle heading the wrong way on George Street before it turned off and continued at a very slow rate of speed in the Edinburgh and Water Street area. The officer conducted a traffic stop and noticed obvious signs of impairment with the driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court November 19, 2024.
Robbery Arrest
A 29-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges after an incident at a local business Saturday.
At approximately 10:00am on October 5, 2024, officers were called to a business in the Charlotte Street and Downie Street area about a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a female had entered the store and attempted to leave without paying for an item. When confronted the woman punched an employee and threw a drink at a customer as she fled the store. The suspect was located by officers a short distance away and taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery with Violence
- Assault with A Weapon
- Assault
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
