Break and Enter Suspect Sought
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a residential break and enter was reported Wednesday evening.
At approximately 11:30pm on September 18, 2024, officers were called to the home in the Monaghan Road and Hopkins Avenue area after it was noticed a door to the home was open and the house ransacked. Through investigation it was learned that a locked closet had been forced open with the following items taken:
- Two shotguns with trigger locks
- A handgun in a portable safe
- Ammunition
- Significant amount of money
- Jewelry

Impaired Arrest
A 49-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Wednesday evening.
At approximately 7:11pm on September 18, 2024, an officer conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 10 in the area of Blue Jay Street observed a vehicle going at a high rate of speed in a 50 km/h zone. The officer activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, the officer noticed signs of impairment with the driver. Officers located open alcohol during a search of the vehicle after arrest.
As a result, a 49-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Speeding 1 - 49 Km/h over posted limit (Highway Traffic Act)
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available (Liquor License and Control Act)
- Fail to surrender insurance card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 29, 2024.
Impaired Arrest
A 50-year-old Township of Cavan-Monaghan man is facing charges after an incident Wednesday evening.
At approximately 8:30pm on September 18, 2024, officers were called to the area of Hunter Street and Armour Road after a report of a vehicle striking a parked vehicle and almost struck an EMS vehicle. The suspect vehicle then went through a schoolyard before the driver exited the vehicle and fled. A man matching the description given to police was located hiding in a garbage enclosure in the Parkhill Road East and Auburn Street area. An officer drew his Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW)and the man was taken into custody without incident.
As a result, a 50-year-old Township of Cavan-Monaghan man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
- Failure to Stop After Accident
- Operation While Prohibited
- Driving While Under Suspension
The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court November 5, 2024.
