Robbery Arrest
Two Peterborough men are facing charges after a robbery Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:00pm on May 23, 2023, officers were called to the area of Aylmer Street and Simcoe Street about a street level robbery. Upon arrival both the suspects and the victim had left the area, however, officers learned that there had been an altercation between three people and a victim was cut with a knife. Through investigation officers were able to identify the suspects and locate the victim who had suffered a minor injury.
Just after 9:00pm, an officer on general patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of George Street and Sherbrooke Street and discovered that the two males wanted in connection with the earlier robbery were passengers in the vehicle. One of the men fled the vehicle with police pursuing him on foot and bike for a short distance. Officers drew their conducted energy weapons and the suspect complied with officer demands. He was then taken into custody without incident. The second suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the traffic stop.
As a result:
A 19-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery with a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with a Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today, May 24, 2023.
A 26-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery with Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to not possess any weapon as defined by the criminal code.
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today, May 24, 2023.
Fraud Arrest
A 56-year-old Toronto man is facing fraud charges after an incident Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 3:30pm on May 23, 2023, officers were called to a kiosk at Lansdowne Place Mall after store clerks became suspicious about a male who was attempting to make a large purchase. Upon arrival, officers learned that the same male had attended the kiosk previously and had purchased several phones totalling over $5000.00. The male was taken into custody, and it was further determined that he had provided officers with fraudulent identity documents.
As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old Toronto man was arrest and charged with:
- Fraud Over $5000 X2
- Identity Theft - obtain or possess another person’s identity information X2
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today, May 24, 2023.
Warrant Arrest
A 28-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30pm on May 23, 2023, an officer on general patrol spotted the woman riding a bike. The officer identified the woman as being wanted in connection with a robbery at a downtown business earlier this month in which the suspect attempted to strike the store owner.
As a result, a 28-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested on the strength of warrant for:
- Robbery with Violence
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and a release order to stay away from the business where the incident occurred.
The accused was released on undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court June 22, 2023.
