Stabbing Arrest Update
A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident in Peterborough Monday morning.
At approximately 10:15am on May 29, 2023, officers were called to a residence in the Stewart Street and Wolfe Street area about a stabbing. Upon arrival, a male victim was located outside the residence. Officers attended to the victim until EMS arrived and took the victim to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Officers learned that a dispute had escalated between two men. Officers searched the residence, located the suspect, and took him into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purposes
- Uttering Threats
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, May 30, 2023.
Traffic Enforcement
Peterborough Police Service laid 19 Highway Traffic Act charges and took five vehicles off the road in connection with an unsanctioned truck rally on Saturday evening.
Approximately 150-200 trucks and other vehicles participated in the rally on May 27, 2023 over the course of several hours. Officers noted most were respectful and obeyed traffic laws. However, they did conduct several traffic stops and took several vehicles off the road.
As a result, officers issued traffic tickets for:
- Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Improper Tires
- Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
- Operate unsafe vehicle
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – cause tire to lose traction
- Obstruct plate
- Unreasonable smoke
- Unnecessary noise
- Three warnings were issued for other various offences
Five vehicles were towed from the highway:
- Three of the vehicles were towed for being unfit for safe operation
- One was towed for being operated without insurance
- One was impounded for 14 days for stunt driving
