Weapons Arrest

A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:30am on August 5, 2023, officers were called to a business in the George Street and King Street area about a patron who had attempted to enter the establishment with what was believed to be a handgun.  Upon arrival, the officers learned that the man had initially been denied entry but had later returned without the weapon.  Officers were directed to the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident.  During a search of the suspect after arrest officers located:

• 3g of cocaine
• Drug paraphernalia

Through further investigation officers located and seized a black BB gun in a nearby parking garage. 

As a result, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Carrying concealed weapon
• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court August 22, 2023.

Weapons Arrest

An 18-year-old City of Kawartha Lakes woman is facing several charges after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 9:30pm on August 5, 2023, officers were called to Crescent Street in Peterborough about reports of an altercation between two groups of girls.  Upon arrival, officers learned that during the altercation several people were struck with bear spray and then the woman pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at the other girls before fleeing into a crowd of people.  A short time later officers spotted a woman matching the description given to police.  A search of her bag revealed a replica handgun, a can of bear spray as well as 3.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, other drugs and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old City of Kawartha Lakes was arrested and charged with:

• Pointing a Firearm
• Carrying concealed weapon X2
• Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose X2
• Traffick in Schedule I substance - Methamphetamines (Crystal Meth)
• Traffick in Schedule III substance- Other Drugs (LSD)

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Impaired Arrest

A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:00am on August 6, 2023, an officer on general patrol noticed a vehicle driving fast and squealing its tires in the area of King Street and Water Street. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, following behind as the vehicle did not stop until the area of Simcoe and Water Street.  Once the officer approached the vehicle, they noticed open alcohol in the vehicle and signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 29, 2023.

Impaired Arrest

A 59-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 2:20pm on August 6, 2023, officers were called about a possible impaired driver unconscious in a vehicle in the Water Street and Inverlea Street area.  Upon arrival, it took officers several attempts to wake the man and when they did, noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 31, 2023.

Impaired Arrest

A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after a collision Monday evening.

At approximately 10:50pm on August 7, 2023, officers were called to the intersection of The Parkway and Lansdowne Street about a two-vehicle collision.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with both drivers.  One driver was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for assessment.  In speaking with the second driver, officers noticed signs of impairment and open alcohol in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor (Liquor License and Control Act)
• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available (Liquor License and Control Act)
• Licence holder - fail to sign driver's licence in ink (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court September 5, 2023.
