Peterborough Police Service Auxiliary Unit – Homeguard & CPTED Audits
Members of the Peterborough Police Service Auxiliary Unit will be in the London Street area of Peterborough tonight (Monday, September 11, 2023) and tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 12, 2023).
The Auxiliary officers plan to visit residences in the area offering Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED) audits along with Home Guard program. Residents can expect to see the Auxiliary officers in the area tonight (Monday, September 11, 2023) and tomorrow (Tuesday, September 12, 2023) starting at 6:00pm.
They will also have information on the CAMSafe program, which is a voluntary registry for security cameras. The registry helps officers know where cameras are located in the community. Owners are then contacted to see if video is available in connection to an incident. Registration does not give the Peterborough Police Service access to the system. Suspicious Person Sought
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a report of a person trying to go through vehicles in a north end neighbourhood.
At approximately 2:30am on Monday, September 11, 2023, officers received information that a man was spotted attempting to enter vehicles in the Flitton Avenue and Whetstone Lane area. When confronted, the suspect brandished a knife at the victim before fleeing.
The suspect was described to police as:
- Male, white
- 40-50 years old
- Thick dark goatee/beard
- About 5’11 and over 200lbs
- He was wearing black shorts and a grey hoodie
Officers attended the area and deployed the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System to search for the suspect however, a suspect was not located.

Drug Arrest
A 46-year-old Pickering man is facing a number of charges after an incident early Saturday morning.
At approximately 3:00am on September 9, 2023, an officer on general patrol in the King Street and Aylmer Street area spotted the vehicle with a licence plate that had been reported stolen. The officer observed the vehicle for a short distance before stopping it in the Bethune Street and Hunter Street area and taking the driver into custody. During a search after arrest, officers located:
- 168.4 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine
- 32.4 grams of Cocaine
- 75.6 grams of Crack Cocaine
- 20.4grams of Psilocybin (mushrooms)
- 146.5 grams of Fentanyl
- Drug paraphernalia
- Over $5600 in Canadian currency
It was also learned that the driver was a prohibited driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old Pickering man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs (Fentanyl)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs (Psilocybin)
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 - in Canada
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
- Failure to comply with undertaking
Highway Traffic Act
- Driving while under suspension
- Driving while under suspension - while suspended under HTA Sec 41/42
- Class G1 licence holder - drive at unlawful hour
- Fail to wear proper helmet on motor assisted bicycle
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Operate unsafe vehicle
- Drive commercial motor vehicle - improper licence
- Fail to have insurance card
The accused is also currently bound by an undertaking with the following conditions to not occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle and to not be in the City of Peterborough unless to attend court or speak with legal counsel.
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on September 9, 2023.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered
A 39-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a stolen vehicle was recovered in a traffic stop.
At approximately 7:15pm on Friday, September 8, 2023, an officer on general patrol in the Aylmer Street and London Street area spotted a vehicle known to be reported as stolen the previous day. The officer conducted a traffic stop and took the driver into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court x2
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on October 3, 2023.
Fraud Arrest
A 45-year-old Vaughan man is facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:15pm on September 8, 2023, officers were called to a banking institution about a man who had opened an account and had possibly used fake identification. Upon arrival, officers spotted a man matching the description given to police and took him into custody. Through investigation, officers learned that the man in custody was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for drug offences. They also located a number of documents and information for another person on the suspect.
As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Vaughan man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and further charged with:
- Personation with Intent - intent to gain advantage (Identity Fraud)
- Use, deals, acts on forged document
- Make Forged Document
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court September 9, 2023.
Assault with a Weapon Arrest
A 46-year-old Peterborough woman is facing an assault charge after an incident Sunday morning.
At approximately 8:30am on September 10, 2023, officers were called to a residence in the Chemong Road and Mason Avenue area about a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male had been struck with a tire iron during the incident. The male did not require medical attention. Officers were able to locate and seize the weapon.
As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon - Spousal
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 3, 2023.
