Weapons Arrest
A 49-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Friday evening.
At approximately 8:00pm on June 2, 2023, officers were called to a Sherbrooke Street residence about a man with a gun making verbal threats. Upon arrival, officers spotted a man matching the description given to police on the porch of the home, and observed the male had a holstered firearm. Officers approached and conducted a gunpoint arrest. The male complied with officers' demands and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A search after arrest determined the firearm was a replica. Officers seized the firearm.
As a result, a 49-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court June 20, 2023.
Impaired Arrest
A 37-year-old Douro-Dummer Township man is facing charges after an incident Friday morning.
At approximately 11:40am on June 2, 2023, officers were called by a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a vehicle parked on Simcoe Street near George Street on the road. The officer also noticed signs of impairment with the driver of the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Douro-Dummer Township man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 27, 2023.
Break and Enter Arrest
A 61-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3:45am on June 4, 2023, officers were called about a break and enter to a residence. Upon arrival, officers learned that someone kicked in the front door, then tried to get into the bedroom of the female resident before fleeing when she screamed. Through investigation, officers identified a suspect as being the victim’s neighbour. After several hours and obtaining a warrant, officers were able to enter the suspect's residence and take the man into custody.
As a result, a 61-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Break, Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
- Mischief under $5000
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court June 4, 2023.
Commercial Vehicle Blitz
The Peterborough Police Service recently hosted a commercial vehicle inspection course with the OPP.
During the course officers conducted a blitz in the Peterborough looking to ensure commercial vehicles and heavier pick up trucks were operating safely on our roads.
As a result:
- 137 charges were laid for a variety of infractions including failing to maintain the vehicle, moving violations, failing to do daily and annual inspections, failing to have insurance.
