Impaired Arrest
A 17-year-old Peterborough male is facing a number of charges after an incident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3:20am on August 18, 2024, officers were called to area of Penrose Avenue and Sherbrooke Street after a report that a vehicle had struck a parked vehicle and then drove away. Upon arrival officers located two vehicles with extensive damage and a license plate that did not belong to either vehicle. Officers attended the residence attached to the plate and located a vehicle with front end damage. They further learned that the vehicle had been taken without permission and that the driver was not licensed. While officers were speaking to the driver, they also noticed signs of impairment.
As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
- Failure to comply with undertaking
- Drive motor vehicle - no licence (Highway Traffic Act)
- Fail to remain (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following conditions: to remain in your residence between 9:00pm and 6:00am.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on November 25, 2024.
Impaired/Stunt Driving Arrest
Two teens are facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.
At approximately 2:50am on August 17, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the Chemong Road and Bellevue St area noticed a vehicle travelling at a high-rate speed southbound on Chemong Road. The vehicle then failed to stop for two red lights and the officer conducted a traffic stop. As the officer was making the stop they saw the driver and passenger switch places. Upon speaking to the males in the vehicle signs of impairment were observed with both.
As a result of the investigation:
A 17-year-old Peterborough male (original driver) was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80plus)
- Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt
The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment for stunt driving.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on October 28, 2024.
An 18-year-old Peterborough male (secondary driver) was arrested and charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released on an appearance notice and will appear in court on October 10, 2024.
Impaired Arrest
A 76-year-old Peterborough man is facing an impaired charged after an incident Friday morning.
At approximately 11:30am on August 16, 2024, a concerned resident called 9-1-1 about a possible impaired driver after a vehicle struck a light post in a parking lot and then left the area. Officers were able to locate the vehicle which was being driven at a very slow pace and swerving in the lane in the Lansdowne Street West and Kawartha Heights Boulevard area. They conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment with the driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 76-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court October 1, 2024.
Assault Arrest
A 77-year-old Township of Cavan-Monaghan man is facing charges after an incident Friday evening.
At approximately 7:17pm on August 16, 2024, officers were called to a residence in the Highway 7 and Ford Crescent area. Upon arrival, they learned that a verbal argument had escalated, and that the woman was shoved by a male and suffered minor injuries. During the investigation three shotguns were located in the home and were not stored properly.
As a result of the investigation, a 77-year-old Township of Cavan-Monaghan man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault – Spousal
- Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Assault Arrest
A 50-year-old Selwyn Township man is facing charges after officers were made aware of some historical incidents.
On Thursday, August 16, 2024, officers were responding to a call for service with regards to domestic issues with an ex-partner. During the investigation, officers were made aware of incidents that had happened in 2016.
As a result, the suspect was arrested at the Peterborough Police Station on Friday, August 16, 2024, and charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon - Spousal
- Assault – Spousal X2
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2024.
Warrant Arrest
A 36-year-old Peterborough man wanted on seven warrants has been arrested.
At approximately 10:00pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024, officers with the Community FIRST unit were on patrol on Hunter Street near Aylmer Street when they spotted the suspect wanted on warrants riding a bicycle. The officers attempted to stop the man however, he took off. They chased him, got him off of the bike and took him into custody.
As a result of the warrants for uttering threats, theft under $5000 X4, failing to comply with probation X4, failing to comply with the sex offender registry X2, robbery with theft and unlawfully in a dwelling house, a 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrants and held in custody.
The accused appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Mischief Arrest
A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Sunday morning.
At approximately 7:00am on Sunday, August 18, 2024, officers on general patrol in the George Street and Sherbrooke Street area were flagged down by a concerned citizen who had noticed three broken windows on a business. Upon arrival to the business, officers noticed that rocks were on the ground in front of the windows and that while severely damaged were not completely broken. It’s estimated that the damage is over $5000.
Through investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect. Several hours later a man matching the suspect description was spotted in the Simcoe Street and George Street area. After a short foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Mischief Over $ 5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order X4
The accused is currently bound by four probation orders issued in another jurisdiction with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on August 18, 2024
